Assignment 2- Task 1- Understanding copyright

Copyright is an important issue as if you copyright it is illegal as it means you have not gained permission from the artist to use their. It means that you are stealing someone else's intellectual property. Copyright is there to protect the artist, so no one can steal their music. To overcome this you have to get in contact with the artists to ask if you can use their song so you can have full proof and permission to use their song. If you do use copyright the video that you have included the song on can be blocked but also they can also sue you for using the song with permission. This affects me as it means that I can not use any song without permission I have to get permission from the artist first before using the song.

An example of copyright is with the song 'Under Pressure'. This song was originally sung by Queen and David Bowie in 1981. In the late 1980's American rapper Vanilla Ice had a single Ice Ice Baby. In this song he had stole the backing track from the original song Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie. This is copyright as he did not get the permission to use their music.

Another example of another issue is the Song 'Don't Matter' performed by Akon. He had stole the music from R. Kelly, 'Ignition'. The song Ignition was a remix of his recent song that become a hit. Akon had sampled the melody of the song. In this song it also uses a part of Bob Marley's song, Zimbabwe during the chorus.
